National Park Service

The National Park Service, a bureau of the Department of the Interior, manages the National Park System of more than 400 parks, monuments, historic sites, and recreation areas across the country. The agency employs roughly 20,000 permanent, temporary, and seasonal workers. Its maintenance employees are federal civilians who care for park infrastructure, including roads, trails, water and wastewater systems, historic structures, visitor centers, and employee housing, often in remote locations.
