About the Role

About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at Pine Bluff Arsenal. This position serves as an Maintenance Mechanic Leader, working along side others setting the pace in the upkeep of the buildings, grounds and related structures for the Arsenal.

Major Duties

  • Work along with other workers, setting the pace.
  • Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders).
  • Obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work.
  • Ensures that the needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and attained.
  • Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor.

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain an asbestos certificate within one year of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Wood Packaging Material certificate with in one year or less of employment.
  • Must take part in all safety programs (VPP, OSHA, etc.)
  • This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • This position requires to complete and pass a pre-employment physical examination and periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision which include using templates, jigs, blueprints or other guides to fabricate metal items for equipment, providing guidance on work tasks to ensure compliance procedures and complying with safety and security requirements.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)
  • Ability to Lead or Supervise
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of Materials
  • Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)
  • Use of Measuring Instruments
  • Physical Effort: Employee frequently works from stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in awkward and cramped positions when welding in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and over 45 pounds with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, and smoky. Is exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electric shock, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles, and other equipment as required.
