U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the federal government's largest water resources and public engineering agency, with nearly 26,000 civilians working in its civil works program. It maintains more than 600 dams, operates roughly 257 navigation locks and 75 hydroelectric power plants, and maintains about 12,000 miles of commercial inland navigation channels, generating about 24 percent of the nation's hydropower. Its federal civilian maintenance workforce keeps locks, dams, powerhouses, and related facilities running at project sites nationwide.
