GlobalFoundries, established in 2009 as a spinoff of AMD's manufacturing operations and publicly traded on Nasdaq since 2021, manufactures semiconductors used in automotive, aerospace and defense, data center, smart device, and IoT applications. The company runs high-volume fabrication plants in Malta, New York, the Burlington, Vermont area, Dresden, Germany, and Singapore, along with advanced packaging operations. Maintenance work happens in 24/7 semiconductor fabs, involving cleanroom process tools and extensive facilities systems such as ultrapure water, gas delivery, and HVAC.
